Congratulations to Monika Harper for receiving May Athlete Of The Month! We are so proud of you and love having such a fun, supportive, and passionate person like you be a part of our gym! Monika has been CrossFitting since 2016 when her and her friend Libby were looking for a sport to get into and stumbled upon OwnIt. On Monika’s first day, she didn’t know what to expect. She felt the coaches at COI and members were super welcoming. She felt like CrossFit was a good and different type of challenge. There were both physical and mental barriers to overcome. She is still recovering from two shoulder surgeries, so the journey looks a little bit different for her today. Today, she still has a drive to get better. Monika feels that there is more mental challenges to face as you get better. She feels like every time she completes...

Congratulations to Tammy Valentin for being voted CrossFit OwnIt Athlete of the Month for March! Below are Tammy’s words! Thank you so much for selecting me for the athlete of the month! I am beyond touched/excited/happy!  I never thought I would be able to do CF and have loved (almost) every moment CF because of you all.  1) How long have you been CrossFitting? I took a trial class at COI on 1/20/21 and officially joined on 1/25/ so this is the end of week nine for me. 2) Take us back to your first day of CrossFit. How did you feel? How does that compare to today? I had no intention of joining CF at all. My husband tried COI about two years ago when we were visiting the area from DC and had nothing but great things to say so when we came back, he wanted to try it out. I stress that...

Congratulations to Juan Parra-Newton for receiving February Athlete Of The Month! Juan has been doing CrossFit for 2 years and 1 month. When he first started, he remembered thinking he may be better at a lot of movements because he played football, however, felt he got humbled very quickly after realizing how tough and brutal the workouts were. Juan feels in CrossFit he found the combination of what he is most passionate about. Such as, working out, helping people get better, compete, and seeing the outcome of the work you put in.His current training goals are to prepare to be an elite athlete. He hopes to compete at Bacon Beatdown and Wodapalooza and God willing the CrossFit Games one day!His favorite part about the gym is the community. Juan enjoys working hard along side people who genuinely want to get better and like to push themselves. Juan’s favorite cheat meal...

Congratulations to Jami Price for receiving January Athlete Of The Month! We are so proud of Jami and love having her be a part of our gym! Jami started CrossFit 2.5 years ago when she was 5 months pregnant with her second child, Rustin. She loved how much of a challenge it was and that it got her out of her comfort zone. Jami genuinely enjoys CrossFit and loves the diversity of the workouts and how each day is different and challenging. She also loves the community and getting to workout with friends. Her current training goals are to have a six pack 🤪. Jami is an open book so there isn’t much people don’t know about her. However, her favorite cheat meal is tollhouse cookies. Jami’s best advice to someone just starting CrossFit is to be consistent and not give up. Stick with it and you will see results if...

Congratulations to David Golden for being selected for COI’s November Athlete of the Month! David has been doing CrossFit on and off for 6 years but has been consistently attending ever since he joined COI, sometimes attending 2-3 classes per day. During his first workout, he remembers thinking “that’s it?” before the workout and then getting muscle cramps in the warm up before he started the WOD. David has learned to respect every workout, even the “easy” looking ones, before he gets started and actually thinks how he should attack the workout and have a game plan instead of jumping in head first!David’s current training goals are to have a clean over 300lbs and a snatch over 245lbs. He would like to become more comfortable with all the skill work he still feels he needs to improve on, such as: rope climbs, handstand walks, and all pull-up bar work.David’s favorite...
